Background
On February 5, 2015, the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors approved the expansion of the Rainfall Index-Annual Forage (RI-AF) plan of insurance to all counties in Colorado. The RI-AF plan is a privately developed product approved under section 508(h) of the Federal Crop Insurance Act. The RI-AF plan of insurance offers protection for annually planted crops used for feed or fodder under the Rainfall and Vegetation Index Plan Insurance Basic Provisions.
Action
RI-AF is expanded to all counties in Colorado beginning with the 2016 crop year. The RIAF materials will be available by close of business today, and may be accessed on the RMA website at: www.rma.usda.gov/policy-procedure/general-policies/rainfall-index
Producers interested in purchasing an Annual Forage program must contact a crop insurance agent and complete an application that will be submitted through an Approved Insurance Provider (AIP).
