Sugar Beet Crop Insurance Changes Effective for the 2024 and Succeeding Crop Years

The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) amended the Sugar Beet Crop Provisions for the 2024 and succeeding crop years in states with a November 30 contract change date and for the 2025 and succeeding crop years in Imperial County, California, with the following changes:

  • Convert Early Harvest Adjustment to an option;
  • Increase the acreage threshold to trigger an adjustment for early harvest; and
  • Increase the Early Harvest Adjustment cap to accommodate a limited situation where the actual yield from early harvested acreage (prior to any adjustment) was already higher than the previous cap.

A Final Rule with these changes published in the Federal Register on November 15, 2023. FCIC invites you to submit comments on this rule through the close of business on January 14, 2024, at regulations.gov.

The following documents will be available by close of business today on the Risk Management Agency (RMA) website at www.rma.usda.gov:

  • Sugar Beet Crop Provisions (24-039)
  • Sugar Beet Frequently Asked Questions

Approved insurance providers must notify policyholders of these changes at least 30 days prior to the cancellation date, as required by the policy.

Interested producers should contact a crop insurance agent for further information. A list of agents can be found on the RMA website at www.rma.usda.gov/Information-Tools/Agent-Locator.
