Subject:

Production and Prevented Planting Claims due to Failure of Irrigation Water Supply as a result of the Goshen/Gering-Ft. Laramie Canal tunnel collapse.
Background

The Risk Management Agency (RMA) has received questions regarding the insurability of production and prevented planting claims on acreage impacted by the Goshen/Gering-Ft. Laramie Canal tunnel collapse.

Recently, RMA has received information from the Gering-Fort Laramie Irrigation District regarding the causes which led to the 2019 collapse of the Goshen/Gering-Ft. Laramie Canal tunnel.

Action
Based upon the information received from the Gering-Fort Laramie Irrigation District, the Risk Management Agency has concluded that the 2019 collapse of the Goshen/Gering-Ft. Laramie Canal tunnel was due to failure of irrigation water supply resulting from an insurable cause of loss.

RMA will reinsure, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Standard Reinsurance Agreement, production and prevented planting losses if the approved insurance providers pay the full amount of the claims to producers in accordance with the provisions of their 2019 crop policies.
Disposal Date
This Bulletin transmits information and expires when the claims related to the 2019 collapse of the Goshen/Gering-Ft. Laramie Canal tunnel are complete.
