Coverage for Specialty Corn Insurance - High Amylose Type
Background
A private product submitted under section 508(h) of the Federal Crop Insurance Act providing coverage for high amylose type specialty corn was approved by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors.  For simplification and ease of administration, the new high amylose type specialty corn crop insurance program has been integrated into the Special Provisions released November 30, 2015, consistent with other corn specialty types under the Coarse Grains Crop Provisions
Action

Beginning with the 2016 crop year, yield or revenue coverage will be provided for the high amylose corn type in specific states and counties without a written agreement.  Insurance will be available in specific counties for Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota.

Approved Insurance Providers are reminded to notify crop insurance agents and corn policyholders of these changes by the sales closing date in the counties where the high amylose corn type will be available.  This will allow policyholders the opportunity to evaluate their current plan of insurance and be aware that, with the availability of high amylose corn type coverage in the Special Provisions, any acreage of high amylose corn must be insured and there will be no need to submit a written agreement by the sales closing date.

Specialty corn crop insurance, including high amylose corn type, is contained within the 2016 crop year Special Provisions and can be accessed through the Actuarial Information Browser on the RMA website at AIB Landing Page.

Interested producers should contact a crop insurance agent for further information.  A list of agents can be found on the Risk Management Agency website at: Agent Locator
