Crop Insurance Sales Closing Deadline for Alaska is Fast Approaching

Producers in Alaska Need to Make Decisions Soon

SPOKANE, Wash., Jan. 29, 2018 – USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) reminds Alaska producers that the final date to apply for barley, cabbage, dry peas, oats, potatoes and wheat Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) policies is March 15. Alaska calendar and early fiscal tax filers interested in the Whole-Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP) program also have until March 15, to obtain coverage for the 2018 crop year.

Current policyholders who wish to make changes to their existing coverage also have until the sales closing date to do so. Individual yield crop insurance policies provide protection against production losses due to natural perils. The WFRP policy provides revenue protection.

Producers are encouraged to visit their crop insurance agent soon to learn specific details for the 2018 crop year. Crop insurance is sold and delivered solely through private crop insurance agents. A list of crop insurance agents is available at all USDA Service Centers and online at the RMA Agent Locator. Producers can use the RMA Cost Estimator to get a premium amount estimate of their insurance needs online.
